Pronoun Definition

A Pronoun is a word used in the place of a noun.

Examples -

1. Radha is my friend.

She is very intelligent.

Radha = Noun

She = Pronoun

Here Radha is a noun word and She is used for noun word Radha. So She is a Pronoun.

2. Mohan is my brother.

He is very strong.

Mohan = Noun

He = Pronoun

Here Mohan is a noun word and He is used for noun word Mohan. So He is a Pronoun.

Types/Kinds of Pronoun

1. Personal Pronouns - Personal Pronouns refer to all three persons with its singular and plural number in Subjective Objective and Possessive case.

Pronoun Examples -
I am a student.
We are busy.
You are my friend.
She is very busy.
He is a good boy.
They are my brothers.
They are helped by us.
We are helped by them.
This book is mine.
This bag is hers
That pen is his.
These books are theirs.

2. Relative Pronouns - Relative Pronouns refers to nouns which come before them.

who, whom, whose, what, which and that are used as Relative Pronouns.

Examples -
I met a lady who is a doctor.
She is the girl who won the match.
This is the book that I wanted.

3. Demonstrative Pronouns - Demonstrative Pronouns point out a Noun

this, that, these, those are Demonstrative Pronouns.

Examples -
This is my book.
That is your book.
These are my books.
Those are your books.

4. Reflexive Pronouns - A Reflexive Pronoun is the Object of the Verb. The action comes back to the doer.

Singular Reflexive Pronouns - myself, yourself, herself, himself, itself

Plural Reflexive Pronouns - ourselves, yourselves, themselves

Examples -
I helped myself.
We did this work ourselves.
He blamed himself.

5. Interrogative Pronouns - When the words who, whom, what, which are used to ask question, they are called Interrogative Pronouns.
Who helped you?
Whom did you call?
Whose is this book?
Which is your bag?

6. Emphatic or Emphasizing Pronouns - All the words of Reflexive Pronouns are also used as Emphatic Pronouns.

Singular - myself, yourself, herself, himself, itself

Plural - ourselves, yourselves, themselves

Examples -
I myself wrote this poem.
She herself washed clothes.
He himself sang songs.
They themselves helped us.

7. Indefinite Pronouns - Pronouns which do not refer to any definite person or thing are Indefinite Pronouns.

some, someone, nine, nobody, anybody, anyone, all, something, anything etc. are Indefinite Pronouns.

Examples -
Someone is singing.
Some are born great.
Anybody can do this.
All should take care.

8. Distributive Pronouns - Distributive Pronouns indicate a group or point to different people or thing.

each, every, everyone, either, neither etc. are Distributive Pronouns.

Examples -
Each of girls had a book.
Every book of Tagore is famous.
Neither of the two boys came.
Everyone sang songs.

9. Possessive Pronouns - They express Possession or relation to something-

mine, ours, yours, his, hers, its are Possessive Pronouns.

Examples -
This pen is mine.
Those bags are ours.
This book is his.
That book is hers.

10. Reciprocal Pronouns - They express mutual relationship like "each other" "one another"

Examples -
We should help each other.
They do not help one another.

"each other" is used for two person and "one another"is used for more than two.

सर्वनाम (PRONOUN) परिभाषा

सर्वनाम संज्ञा के स्थान पर प्रयोग किया जाने वाला शब्द है।

जैसे

1. राधा मेरी दोस्त है।

वह बहुत होशियार है।

राधा = संज्ञा

वह = सर्वनाम

यहाँ राधा एक संज्ञा शब्द है और वह संज्ञा शब्द राधा के लिए प्रयोग किया जाता है। तो वह सर्वनाम है।

2. मोहन मेरा भाई है।

वह बहुत बलवान है।

यहाँ मोहन एक संज्ञा शब्द है और वह संज्ञा शब्द मोहन के लिए प्रयोग किया जाता है। तो वह सर्वनाम है।
